I am excited to have Jarryn start his professional career, not only in his home country, but with the Cape Breton Highlanders.
The Cape Breton Highlanders are continuing to build their roster after signing Canadian point guard Jarryn Skeete.
Skeete, a 23-year-old Brampton, Ont. native, will be getting
his first opportunity to play professional basketball after joining the expansion National Basketball League of Canada team yesterday. He had been a four-year starter for the University at Buffalo Bulls from 2012-16.
The six-foot-three, 180-pound guard averaged 7.9 points per
game, 3.2 rebounds per game and 2.2 assists per game this past season. He was also named to the Springfield Bracket All-Tournament Team for
the last year’s Hall of Fame Tip-Off:
He had also been named to the MAC All-Freshman Team in
2012-13 after earning a starting role “due to his maturity and solid
decision-making," per the Bulls’ athletic department website.
"Jarryn is an outstanding young Canadian talent,” said Highlanders
president and general manager Tyrone Levingston in a statement. “I am excited
to have Jarryn start his professional career, not only in his home country, but
with the Cape Breton Highlanders."
In his four years with the university, he had played under three different head coaches and multiple assistant coaches. He was
also the only four-year player on the Bulls last season.
Skeete and the Highlanders will start their inaugural season
Dec. 27 against the Halifax Hurricanes.
