The Windsor Express have traded Michael Nwelue and Bright Mensah to the Saint John Riptide for two draft picks.

The Express, who signed both players this offseason, have sent their signing rights to Saint John for the team's first and second round picks in this weekend's National Basketball League of Canada Entry Draft.

Nwelue, a six-foot-five forward who played college basketball for Drury University, had joined the Express this past September. He had played professionally last season for Ametx Zornotza in Spain.

"I didn't expect it, but things happen," said Nwelue after the deal. "There's no hard feelings there. I'm just looking forward to going out there and giving it my all for Saint John."

Mensah had been a part of a group of four smaller signings last month. The William Patterson University product was preparing to play his first pro season after averaging 21.3 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game his senior year.

Windsor will now have four draft picks heading into this weekend's combine and entry draft at the Athlete Institute.
