Weeks after being cut by the NBA Development League's Sioux Falls Skyforce, Brandan Kearney is coming back to Canada.

The Windsor Express announced Wednesday they have signed Kearney, who had made the Miami Heat affiliate's training camp roster earlier this month.

He was placed on waivers by Sioux Falls Nov. 8, according to RealGM.

Kearney, a six-foot-six, 198-pound guard and forward, is entering his second season in the National Basketball League of Canada. He had been selected second overall in the 2015 NBLC Draft by the Moncton Miracles where he averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 24 minutes per game in 40 appearances. He also finished fourth in the league in three-point percentage (41.1 per cent).

Kearney had been on the Miracles' protected players list.

"He wanted to come back and play for me and the Moncton Miracles. He is a good young players and even a better person," said Miracles head coach Paul Mokeski. "Windsor was able to offer him more money than our budget allowed and he will be close to his family that live in Detroit. Brandon has a very bright basketball career ahead of him and we wish him well."

The Detroit native had played collegiately at Michigan State University, Arizona State University and the University of Detroit.

Kearney will be one of about 20 players heading into the Express' training camp when it starts Dec. 12. The official training camp roster is set to be finalized this weekend.

More to come.
