Six NBL Canada players could be picked in NBA D-League Draft

Multiple players from the National Basketball League of Canada are eligible to be selected in the 2016-17 NBA Development League Draft.

Six former, current or potential NBLC players have the chance to be drafted today by one of the NBA D-League’s 22 franchises. The six-round draft, which consists of 182 eligible players, will be looking to join the ranks of those who currently have connections to NBA teams or affiliate clubs, are tryout standouts or are returning to the league.

The six players on the board with NBLC ties are:

George Beamon: Played collegiately for the Manhattan Jaspers from 2009-14, was the 2014 MAAC Tournament MVP, signed with The Island Storm Jan. 27, released by the team Feb. 26.

NBLC 2015-16 Stats: 6 GP, 8.7 PPG, 38.6 FG%, 42.9 3PT%, 1.0 APG, 3.7 RPG

DaQuan Brooks: Played collegiately for the Western Connecticut Colonials from 2008-12, played for the Moncton Miracles during the 2014-15 NBLC season and the Orangeville A’s in 2015-16.

NBLC 2015-16 Stats: 25 GP, 10.2 PPG, 41.9 FG%, 31.9 3PT%, 8.8 APG, 2.3 RPG

Maurice Bolden: Played collegiately for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles from 2009-12, played in the NBLC for the London Lightning from 2013-15 and the Windsor Express for the 2015-16 season.
NBLC 2015-16 Stats: 47 GP, 10.1 PPG, 48.1 FG%, 35.1 3PT%, 1.8 APG, 6.9 RPG

Grandy Glaze: Played collegiately for the Saint Louis Billikens from 2011-14 and the Grand
Canyon Antelopes in 2015-16, drafted 15th overall in the 2016 NBLC All-Canadian Draft by the Moncton Miracles in September.

NBLC 2015-16 Stats: None

Tyrrel Tate: Played collegiately for the Fayetteville State Broncos from 2011-2014, played in the NBA D-League’s Idaho Stampede during the 2014-15 season, played in the NBLC for the Moncton Miracles in 2015-16.

NBLC 2015-16 Stats: 41 GP, 8.4 PPG, 37.1 FG%, 30.1 3PT%, 1.9 APG, 3.5 RPG

Kendall Williams: Played collegiately for the New Mexico Lobos from 2010-14, played for the Chicago Bulls during the 2014 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, played professionally for Consultinvest VL Pesaro (Lega 1 – Italy) and Aurora Fileni BPA Jesi (Legadue Gold – Italy) in 2014-15 as well as Rent4Office Nuernberger BC (Pro A - Germany) in 2015-16, signed with the NBLC’s London Lightning Sept. 28.

NBLC 2015-16 Stats: None

Ridiculous Upside, SB Nation’s NBA Draft and D-League coverage website, currently has Glaze and Williams ranked 37th and 47th on its top 50 rankings respectively.

Not every player selected will go on to play immediately. While the first four rounds of the draft are mandatory picks, teams have the option to pass on selecting someone in the final 44 picks. The rosters are also required to be trimmed down to 10 players by Nov. 10.


The NBA D-League draft starts at 2 p.m. EST. Their season will tip off Nov. 11.
